If you are someone who has always dreamt about starting your own private practice with ease—without the headaches of dealing with insurances, billing, marketing, and admin work that can take away the joy from what you truly love doing—then joining the Porta Verum Team is for you!
As a W2 employee, you'll feel like you are running your own private practice—minus all the hassles!
How is that possible, you may ask?
Well, I love being an entrepreneur AND I love supporting mental health professionals in pursuing their passions.
I see too many therapists giving up on their dream of starting a private practice because they feel confused and overwhelmed about the process of getting started.
Many end up working for one of those big telehealth companies, where they attract massive amounts of clients who are not the right fit for them, making their already challenging job as mental health professionals even more difficult and exhausting.
Alternatively, some do start on their own but struggle financially and wrestle with admin tasks that encroach on their personal lives, taking away precious time with family and the activities they love.
Believe me, I’ve been there!
When I founded Porta Verum 15 years ago, I had no one to guide and support me. I had to navigate everything on my own, which involved hard work and countless failures! But all that effort paid off, as today, Porta Verum is a thriving group practice with 7 providers and 3 support staff!
I created Porta Verum as a unique psychotherapy practice where you can thrive as a therapist rather than as an office manager (which you did not go to school for)!
Working at Porta Verum allows you to practice your healing art in a way that is fully aligned with who you are as a therapist and with your philosophy for healing.
I believe that the key to feeling better is for people to connect with the right therapist who understands them deeply and authentically, offering a therapy modality that fits their needs.
I also believe that for mental health professionals to feel inspired and fulfilled by their work, they need to have the right kind of clients.
This is where we come in!
We match our clients with a therapist who is the right fit for them and vice versa! It’s truly like a match made in heaven, making transformation possible for both the client and the therapist.
Another thing that sets us apart is that even if you are an employee, you get to set your own hours! The most important thing for us is that you have a schedule that feels good for you. We only ask for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
Being in private practice can also be incredibly lonely and isolating. Handling difficult client situations all by yourself may feel like a burden. It is not unusual to feel unsure about the best course of action. This is why we hold weekly team meetings focused on providing our telehealth therapists with the support they need, case consultations, and professional training.

You choose when and where you work, and you build a caseload around the life you actually want. Set your own availability and create a balanced schedule that works for you.
A 401(k) plan is available for W2 employees, with automatic deposits that make it simple to save and build long-term financial security.
After 6 months of W2 employment, you're eligible for a 3–5% revenue-based bonus. The more you grow your caseload, the more you earn. (Licensed role only.)
Insurance doesn't have to be a headache, because we handle it for you. Taking insurance clients means a steady flow of people who can consistently afford care—and we credential and contract you with major panels so you don't have to chase it yourself.
You never have to worry about income drying up from a lack of clients. We handle marketing and advertising, and we match clients to you based on fit — so your calendar stays full with people you're genuinely equipped to help.
We're proud of our onboarding process. We handle intake paperwork, scheduling, and benefits checks ahead of time—so all you have to do is show up for the session. No chasing paperwork, no back-and-forth, no benefits surprises.
Submitting claims and following up on payment can be a nightmare and a drain on cash flow. Our billing team handles claims for you, making sure submissions are processed correctly and you get paid.
Scheduling, cancellations, and rebooking can be a huge time-suck. We're masters of the scheduling puzzle and have systems that keep your calendar full, even when clients cancel.
The days of figuring it all out alone are over. We hold weekly team meetings for case consultation, professional learning, and a safe space to process the hard things that come up with clients—so you keep growing as a clinician.
You hold a qualifying California license or registration: licensed (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or Psychologist) or an associate working toward licensure (ASW, AMFT, or APCC). Strong clinical training and a commitment to ethical, quality care are a must.
You're registered (or eligible to register) with the California BBS, and your license or associate registration is active and in good standing.
You have experience providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and/or children—or, if you're an associate, you're eager to build that experience with our support and supervision.
You're comfortable and confident working on a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and EHR. Most of your work is virtual, so ease with technology matters.
You can commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week, including 1–2 in-person days in San Diego. You set your own availability within that.
You're a warm, collaborative team player with excellent communication. You're flexible, adaptable, and thrive in a dynamic setting—and you're looking for a place to land and grow for the long haul.
Are bilingual (Spanish)—a big plus for serving more of our community.
Have experience or interest in working with couples and/or children.
Have training in modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, the Gottman Method, or EFT—and an openness to learning new approaches is welcome too.
